Akimoto Kuniko (Askaka Mayumi) swears she told Haruko that she was going to be teaching at a Japanese language school. Haruko goes to visit the principal who is in the hospital earlier than planned for some procedure. Things get out of hand and she runs out of the classroom. He does and Haruko is soon overwhelmed with questions – amazed at just how many words she doesn’t know being a native Japanese speaker. Haruko asks Takasu to leave and let her try on her own. The students aren’t happy wen it appears Haruko is learning along with them. Haruko tries to explain all the differences, but admits to being stumped.

The students are confused about how many different ways you can count things depending on size, shape, state, and other various things. She scolds him for not telling him earlier and begins the lesson on counting (which seems way too complicated). Takasu then says they all have basic conversational skills. Haruko is surprised at his Japanese level. She tries to make it even simpler and one student, Jack from America (Blake Crawford), says that they understand, so why doesn’t she start the lesson. Haruko introduces herself to the class in really simple Japanese. Haruko asks for a chance and asks if he will just observe her once. Takasu doesn’t want to let Haruko stay as he doesn’t think she’ll be able to handle it. She goes and asks if that is really her and Haruko says yes, but she has already quit the shop to take this job as a teacher. Haruko doesn’t want to believe him, but when she opens the classroom door, foreigners of all ages greet her.įlipping through a magazine, sensei Katori (Katherine) Miyuki (Harada Natsuki) sees Haruko’s picture and can’t believe the charismatic shop girl came to teach at their school. Prep school? Sensei Takasu Kazuki (Ikeda Narushi) has the pleasure of telling Haruko that it isn’t a prep school, but a Japanese Language School for foreign students. And she reiterates that she has come to work at this prep school. The other two teachers she ran by come up and ask what her problem is. That’s when she makes the announcement that she is the new teacher. The teacher then turns to her and tells her to leave before he calls the police on her for trespassing. The black man, Bob, asks if he is late and the teacher replies he is just on time. He goes to get his cell out, but then he recognizes the man chasing her. She sees another teacher and yells at him to quickly call the police. They were just talking about how much of a help the arrival of the new teacher would be, too, and she is already causing such a ruckus. Haruko manages to flatten one of the teachers against the wall as she makes her escape. Freaked out thinking he is after her for revenge, she starts screaming and running.

If you’re learning Japanese (or even if you aren’t) I think it’s worth the watch, if nothing else, for some interesting terms used and explained throughout the show.Haruko finally makes it to the school only to see the black man from the bus running at her at full speed. Still, it was mainly fun to watch due to the performances by Haruko (Naka Riisa) and Takasu-sensei (Ikeda Narushi).

Overall, I found it generally fun and entertaining but I must say that the foreign actors’ performances were rather bad and forced in general and the whole show is kind of childish and goofy, so if you don’t like those aspects, this series may not be suited for you. I have to say, first of all, that this was my first Japanese drama. And so, she becomes a trainee teacher at a Japanese language school where she coaches nine foreign students with strong personalities, including an Italian anime enthusiast and a Swede who is in love with ninjas. Haruko is asked by her former teacher to teach Japanese to foreigners for three months on the understanding that he would introduce her for the high school’s Japanese language teaching position. However, she is unable to give up her dream of being a high school teacher. Kano Haruko is a charismatic shop assistant who has such excellent fashion sense that she has been featured in fashion magazines.
